The idea for the exhibition is based on the idea of showing current positions in contemporary art from the Augsburg region. The aim is to unite the most diverse and ambitious works possible in a cohesive presentation. To ensure this, the exhibition has been artistically curated by initiator Christofer Kochs.
Painting has often been declared dead and has been resurrected at least as often. Especially in these times of massive digitalisation, it is once again gaining enormous relevance, because with its sensual, physical expressiveness it consciously sets itself apart from the smooth, light-generated and mass-produced digital image with its need for materiality, uniqueness and suggestive expressiveness. The title POLYCHROM thus refers to the multi-layered analogue expressive possibilities of colour and its effect.
The artists
The exhibition, which focuses primarily on painting and drawing, will showcase both young and older artists – abstract and figurative painters and sculptors.
The core of the exhibition concept is to unite particularly exciting and challenging positions of the Augsburg art scene, all of which have achieved supra-regional significance, in a powerful platform. Six artists will be represented in order to ensure a representative selection of the most diverse artistic positions, without getting caught up in the pettiness of a survey exhibition. All of the artists have studied at German art academies and work as freelancers or teachers. Nevertheless, they all have very different influences and concepts.
The selected artists have never exhibited together in this form before. Thanks to her husband Helmut Troendle-Endhardt, works from the estate of the artist Burga Endhardt, who died in 2019, will be on display.
The selection of artists thrives on the independence of their positions and their clear, formal delineation. In terms of content, it is easy to find associative links and recognise correspondences. This guarantees a dramaturgically exciting presentation with the greatest possible range.
