Almost two years ago, Timur Lukas and Tom Król first met through a rather a rather coincidental juxtaposition of their works in an exhibition context. They came closer together this spring closer to each other this spring – in the simultaneous their first institutional solo exhibitions. However, these presentations remained longest in the secrecy of the pandemic-related closed due to the pandemic. Now their works are now united in the rooms of the Kunstverein Augsburg – for what could be described as the first institutional double exhibition of the two young painters. Their paintings communicate with each other and with their viewers, develop in a loose score into a multi-faceted coherent composition. Occasionally this is expanded in terms of sound, supported, but perhaps also disturbed by the music chosen by the artists for this purpose.
Following five rooms, their subjects dance a pas de deux, reacting to each other. Sometimes Król’s multi-layered portraits take the lead and utilise their freedom, sometimes Lukas‘ colourful views of, or rather into, a world distorted nature characterised by childhood memories nature, the forest outside grandma’s window.
‘Unite! Limbo Forest’ is not only for the viewers* a delightful union of two highly interesting and fresh painterly positions. It is also the result of an equally spontaneous and fruitful cooperation between two associations in a time that demands openness and closeness in equal measure.
